A first at this year’s Agri-Expo Livestock – and a first in South Africa – is an auction of working sheep dogs during a demonstration. This auction will be held on Friday 13 October 2017 at Sandringham just outside Stellenbosch as part of the three day Agri-Expo Livestock expo.
According to well-known sheepdog trainer WA Hugo of Lambert’s Bay, there is an enormous need for the use of sheepdogs in agriculture in South Africa. Hugo, a member of the South African Sheepdog Association, says the advantage of this auction at Agri-Expo Livestock is that it gives buyers the opportunity to personally experience the working dogs in action. “This is a unique opportunity to buy a finished product rather than a puppy,” says Hugo.
Two sheepdogs trained by Hugo will be auctioned off by BKB’s auctioneers as part of a bigger auction, on Friday 13 October from 14:00 to 15:00 in the Santam Display Arena. They will also auction off three Percherons from the well-known Elsenburg stud (two stallions and one gelding), four Pintos, four miniature horses and four miniature donkeys.
Potential buyers can contact the following persons: WA Hugo (sheepdog) at 082 611 4004, Bennie Aucamp (Percherons) at 083 641 5161 or BennieA@elsenburg.com or Deon Vlok (Pintos, miniature horses and donkeys) at 082 465 5841.
Experts from the sheep dog association will also be available to answer queries at their stall at the expo. Agri-Expo Livestock takes place from 12 to 14 October 2017. For more information, visit www.livestock.org.za.
