Dairy goat farmers – and anyone interested in small stock dairy – can once again learn from the experts at the fourth Dairy Goat Information Day on Thursday 12 October 2017 during Agri-Expo Livestock at Sandringham outside Stellenbosch.

This unique Western Cape platform creates an opportunity for upcoming small stock farmers to become involved in dairy goat farming. This year’s program once again includes speakers from across the country:

  • Dr Gillian Declercq (State Veterinarian at the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development) talks about ‘Boererate’ as a simple solution to common ailments such as acid and milk disease in farm animals – ideal for small scale farmers who do not always have access to veterinarians.
  • Rina Belcher (founder member of the Southern Africa Goat and Sheepsmilk Processers Organisation and the Small Stock Dairy Association) shares her experience of the last 14 years as owner of the Belnori Boutique Cheesery. A life with and for dairy goats – How it can change your life
  • The well-known Dr Faffa Malan gives valuable information on vaccines and dosing agents. His participation is sponsored by Landbouweekblad.
  • Boer goat farmer Pip Nieuwoudt (Chairperson of the Western Cape Boer Goat Club) and dairy goat specialist Donald Mouton (manager of Fairview and previous Chairperson of the SA Milch Goat Breeders’ Society) presents a talk and practical session about the differences and the opportunities of milk goats and meat goats.

The event is sponsored by the Western Cape Department of Agriculture and aims to develop skills, improve market access and promote sustainability.

The Dairy Goat Information Day takes place from 08:00 to 13:30 in the Agri-Expo Conference Centre. This information day is a project of Cape of Good Hope Agricultural Society (also known as Agri-Expo) aimed at promoting a positive image of agriculture. Attendance is free of charge and enquiries may be directed to  Breyton Milford at 021 975 4440 or
